Notes :
Following the discovery of forgeries of the first Commonwealth of Australia five pound notes in 1914, steps
were taken to modify the design. A mosaic of 5’s was added to the reverse of the note and the horizontal red
and yellow bands prominent on the first design were replaced by a vertical phasing from purple through to yellow
and back again. Approximately 10,293,018 notes with the modified design were printed between 1914 and 1924.
Valuation : r36a – Mc54a # Collins/Allen Five Pound Banknotes
These notes only appear very rarely, so any valuations are largely hypothetical.
Lot 171 at the International Auction Galleries Auction 70 held on 13th September, 2009
was a r36a banknote - graded aF - which realised a price of $81,550
